For this assignment I decided to change groups to give myself the chance of working with as many people as possible, and to see how other people operated, to try and learn by their experiences and hopefully be able to pass on some of my own.
Once I had joined my new group we talked about what we wanted to try and achieve and the theme of our shoot. We decided that we wanted to shoot on location and not do anything that was obvious when you thought of education.
We tried to get a number of models but unfortunately were only to get the services on the day of two. I believe if we had a greater number then the whole concept would have been better, it was however hard to find even two models that were free and willing to work with us on this project. Having more models would have enabled us to produce an even wider range of images that involved movement and the fun side of being children.
As the shoot progressed we adapted the idea we first started off with, this was to be as further ideas would come to mind as we progressed the shoot. The fact that we changed and adjusted our idea and revisited it several times helped us to focus more on what it was that we where aiming for and the outcome that we wanted to achieve.
I feel that overall the shoot went well, we had good weather, and both of the models were good. James was the better of the models but he is slightly more experienced and was a little bit more out going on the day. Both models were a pleasure to work with and even brought their own ideas and suggestions into play.
As a group we worked well together, all of us understanding what it was that we wanted to get out of the shoot. I was a little bit nervous with what the stylist was proposing to buy at first, as having seen the itemised list of clothing it sounded so strange. The stylist was very professional and in the end chose a style of clothing that was perfect to show the childish and wacky side of children that we wanted.
In the end everything turned out great and I was extremely happy with the wardrobe, the models the location and the pictures that I managed to take.
Went it came to making the magazine we decide to book out a room and not leave till we had finished the layout and the editing of the images. We sat down and narrowed down the images that we wanted in the magazine and then drew up the layout on the white bored that was in the room. We spent around an hour playing round with the layout changing the sizes of the images so they weren’t all full bleed. It took us four hours to finish the whole magazine and get the text on. We did have some trouble coming up with a title for the editorial till we came up with the joy ride of youth with we all love as we feel it describe the whole shoot and the style in which we have set everything out. I am really happy with the magazine and the layout as a finished peace.
So we have just finished editing all of the final images and created the magazine as well. It took around four and a half hours to get the whole magazine done from the picking of the image and editing to creating the layout and thinking of a new name. We went onto a few different website to try and find the perfect style of text for our title and quote. We ended up using two different fonts but i feel that this still works.
This is the final layout that we decided to settle on. It’s a very mixed up layout with lots of images being different sizes and on different places on the page. It is very i love fake and i-D like in this way. We wanted more of a fun layout then a traditional one image on a page.
We decided on the images that we wanted to use in the layout and then put them in one at a time, we had an idea before we started what we wanted some of the image to look like we new we wanted three together and we pick some that we thought where really strong as the larger images/full bleed.
So this is our layout that we have decided to go with. I think that we went about creating the layout really well. we started by just drawing the outline of the four pages and then writing a list of all the images that we where going to use down the right hand side so that we new how many images we where using and could tick them off once we had put them in.
It was hard to fit all of our fravite images in with out it looking really busy so some of the images we didn’t end up putting in in the end. The last thing that we decided on was the title with is the joyride of youth. We had come up with a few names over the past few weeks but none of them seemed to stick. I think that the title suits the theme of the shoot, as when your young life is fun and you can have fun doing nothing at all. the playfulness of the shoot and the style that we shoot it in as well as the playful layout of the magazine ties it all together.
so we have just fniished the shoot and as a whole we think that it went really well. it didnt take us as long as we frist thiought this might of been because we didnt use a makeup artist which saved us time. we all had a quick look thought hte images over luncuh and there was two images that really stood out to us all that we new had to go in our final magazine.
annie uploaded all the images that night onto her facebook page, because we talked about the easit way of getting together and then narroing them down and ahilha said that you can make private albums on facebook so we did this. we all went though the iamges and liked hte onces that we really liked and conometn on a few about what we liked and what we didnt liked and if there was anthing that we wanted to change in them. we also spoke about the layout of some of the photogrpahs and came up with some different ideas.
these are some of my fraveite images form the shoot i do have more but didnt think there was much point in putting loads up. my frace one of them all is of jaimes pulling his top over his mouth and making the peace sign. i think that it is a really stong image and would really like it to be a full bleed image. we have spoke about the layout abit but we still need to sit down properly and tlk about everything and com up with a layout.
so we have just had our last meeting beofe the shoot tomorrow. everyone is abit nervouos and angjust but we are all looking forward to it and feel that we will bea ble to get a set of really good images form it.
today was the day that me and anni finally got to see the clothes that the stylest had bought. form the way they had descied what some of the clothes ahd looked like and the list of things that they where going to buy i was curesis to actually see what they looked like.
the cohes that they had picked where all bright and wried which i felt was going to work really well for us when shooting. they had magaed find find clothes that we wanted bright cloours some bezar clothing and some talied, so that they could mix and match.
after they ahd should us the outfits i was really happy with the clothes that they had maaged to get.
So we have finished the shoot my last post spoke about it all, but we need get find a time where we can all sit down and get the final layout of the editorial done. Because of some of us not living in and having job we are going to meet up next week and spend the whole day working on it. Ayesha is going to book out a room so that we can use one of the big screens and have more space and not be deterd while we are working everything out.
We are going to narrow the images down so that there will be one less thing that we will need to do next week, but we are meeting at 5 and I think that we will be working till at least 11 or so to make sure everything is how we want it.
